Matador Playlist 7/9/26

Welcome to yet another installment of that endlessly renewable supernatural resource, that blister on your psychic bum that just won’t go away, that antidote to what ails you that you weren’t aware ailed you, the eternal Mock to the sublime Woof—yes, Gentle Reader(s), it’s the Matador Playlist. Ask for it by name, accept no substitute. How long is this Anti-AI ectoplasmic exercise in musical exorcism going to keep on going on on on? For at least one more week, so it seems.

I can report with some satisfaction that the previously reported standoff with the Monster Fan has been duly resolved. I proposed to dearest Katia that I bring in a Mini-Monster fan to be temporarily placed in front of the multi-bladed behemoth commanding the far end of the bar. She was agreeable and the results were favorable: I was able to hear the music and the Mini-Monster provided sufficient sub-hurricane strength breeziness for the comfort of both bartender and barstool occupants. Cesar, bless his heart, has been busy as a bee and TWO brand new cooling units have been installed in Ye Olde Matador Bar & Lounge. It was plenty crowded on Thursday night, but the combo of coolers and fans kept the temps well within acceptable comfort levels.

There were some good requests last night and I laid in a few new tracks of interest from the likes of Charley Crockett, James Brown and Madonna. There was one item that caught my eye on the iTunes list of new releases—an electronica-ish dance toon for which the artist name, song title, album title and all other info was a extended mishmash of keyboard hieroglyphics that would have put Prince in his ‘Unpronounceable Love Symbol’ days to shame. The only non-gibberish bit of info relating to the project was the name of the composer: Kieran Hebden. I was intrigued and downloaded a toon, but the workhouse Matador MacBook apparently couldn’t quite get with the program and refused to play the song. It plays just fine on this (much newer) device, but I have no way of communicating the particulars to you beyond what is described above.

I can’t think of a compelling image to illustrate the theme (is there one?) of this week’s playlist riposte, and when you’ve seen one fan you’ve pretty much seen them all. So, instead you will find posted at the top an image from the Matador Days of Yore, with the one and only Francisco hisself behind the bar. Ahhh, the good old days! Frankie—we miss ya, son! Come on home!

And as for the YouTube-ish incarnation of the playlist—you can access that bad boy by clicking your clickable click-thing right HERE.
