Matador Playlist 4/2/26 (sort of…)

When I walked in the door last night my first thought was that they were having me on. Katia and Wolf were sitting there at the end of the bar grinning at me and, other than the two of them, the Place. Was. Empty. It wasn’t my birthday or anything so it didn’t make any sense that everyone would be hiding in the back to spring a surprise party on me—there simply weren’t no one there.

Slow evenings are bound to happen every once in a while but it is very rare indeed for Ye Olde Matador Bar & Lounge to be completely devoid of clientele at any given point on any given day. It’s always possible, if not probable, that things will pick up substantially over the course of an evening but when you’re coming from an absolute dead-in-the-water, tumbleweeds-blowing-through-the-joint cold start it’s a hard road to turn it around, financially speaking. Sometimes a quiet night can be quite enjoyable. It can give me the opportunity to spin some stuff that I rarely have a chance to play—old school acoustic country and blues, maybe a bit of jazz—but always with the knowledge that I’ll be heading home in the wee hours with little more than beer money to show for it. I stuck it out until 11:30 last night and while things did indeed pick up it at no point was it actually what you’d call ‘busy.’ So I decided to let discretion be the better part of valor and bade a fond adieu to Katia, Wolf and Diego to head home for a blessedly early evening. DJ Inky will be traveling for a bit and while there’s a chance that I might get in one more set before the end of the month it’s kinda unlikely. Such being the case, here is a 1/2 evening’s set to tide you, Gentle Reader(s), over until next time, whensoever as that may be.

The photo atop is of Wolf taking advantage of the unimpeded expanse of the Matador’s vast dance floor to do some acrobatic skateboard moves around the room. The kid is pretty darn handy on that thing, I gotta say.

As always, you may click HERE for the YouTubeian manifestation of the playlist. Enjoy!
