20 Mar Matador Playlist 3/5/20
This is it, Gentle Reader(s)—the last full DJ Inky set list to see the light of day (figuratively speaking) before the Lockdown took effect. There was an abbreviated set on the evening of March 12, but with scant attendance and concerns of pandemonia hovering ominously about the town, Your Humble Narrator decided to let discretion be the better part of valor and repair back home to the Inky Aerie shortly after the stroke of midnight. Amongst the sparse attendees on 3/12 were three short, boisterous women, one of whom was insistent in loudly proclaiming to all and sundry ‘We’re from Texas! We’re from TEXAS!!!’ My response was, ‘Do I come to you with my problems?’
Strange Times are officially upon us, Dear Friends, and we’re all still struggling to get some sort of measure of the depth and the breadth of the situation that is unfolding globally, moment by moment. The clichés pile up, to be sure, but I think it is safe to say that no one alive today has seen global disruption on a scale such as this since the Second World War. Santa Fe is essentially shut down. As of this evening Ye Olde Matador Bar & Lounge is going dark for the foreseeable future. Well, it’s always dark, but you know what I mean.
Dismal as it all seems, I feel compelled to point out that it could be worse. This is, after all, the slow season in Santa Fe, Spring Break notwithstanding. It’s bad, but the economic impact would be infinitely more devastating had the Lockdown gone into effect in July or August. With luck, discipline, perseverance, and a bit of Divine Intervention perhaps we’ll be emerging from this fearful fug by early summer. As a primary domestic tourist destination Santa Fe might be well poised for recovery as vacationers set their sights on attractive options within the lower 48. What can I tell ya—I’m just a beer glass half-full kinda guy.
So, Gentle Reader(s), here you have it—a genuine, tried and true Matador Playlist. Stay tuned for more to come, including a special Shelter In Place playlist to help soothe your (hopefully less than 101.5) fevered brow.
Be Careful, Be Strong, Keep Calm, Carry On.
