20 Apr DJ Inky’s Survival Playlist
Welcome back, Gentle Reader(s), to yet another offering of tuneful temperings calculated to swing a bit of distractive sanity your way in these trying times. Over a month into the New Normal and things are getting a bit weird Out There, and In Here as well. There’s no end of fine lines to be walked between getting out and staying in, keeping informed and getting overwhelmed, staying chill and devolving into a blob, remaining productive and becoming obsessive, safety and paranoia, etc etc. Is there any end in sight? Hard to tell. Depends on who you decide to believe. And it truly is a decision. Anyone who tells you they’re absolutely right is almost certainly absolutely wrong. As far as what the future holds, nobody knows anything to a certainty—of that you can be sure.
This is the point where I could, and typically would, go off about the Orange Goblin, but is it really worth it? Anybody with eyes and ears and half of what nature put between them should be able to determine horseshit from hominy. Or so you might think. Either way, let’s not go there. Let’s listen to some music instead. Some GOOD music!
I’ve got some wonderful selections for you this go round, starting off with a great clip of Charlie Rich (he sure could sing, that sonofabitch!) back in his Elvis-esque heyday, followed by some ’80s vintage Iggy (shirtless, of course). Check out Chuck Berry talking English to French people with what appears to be his approximation of a French accent (‘No Particular Place to Go’), the late, great D. Boone leaping about like a hyperactive bonehead Pillsbury Doughboy (‘Corona’), the beautiful young Bob Marley and the original Wailers live on British TV (who knew Peter Tosh was so TALL?), the beautiful young Liz Phair on American TV (who knew Liz Phair was so SHORT?) and the beautiful young Nick Cave and Blixa Bargeld crooning together in a rowboat on a Frederico Fellini black polyurethane sea (‘The Weeping Song’). I did my best to find cool videos for you, but in lieu thereof good quality audio shall have to suffice.
So there you have it. Enjoy! Stay Safe, Stay Strong, Keep Calm and Carry On!
